Steve
Johnson

Steve Johnson was born in 1950.  He graduated from University of Northern Iowa with a B.A.  He then went on to establish a Ceramic Studio in Clear Lake, Iowa.  In 1981, he began his dream of the reconstructed vessels series.

Steve Johnson’s beautifully turned vessels at first glance appear to be three dimensional abstract paintings.  With closer observation, Johnson’s approach is quite unique.  After throwing the vessels so perfectly, he then breaks them into chards.  Each chard is then painted with enamels and acrylics in bold hues and abstract design.  The vessel is reconstructed to its original form more beautifully than ever.

Johnson believes his vessels parallel life and the human spirit.  Always mending, always reconstructing itself to a more beautiful and stronger image.
