Garrison is a native of Arizona, currently living in the high desert southwest of Tucson, with his working studio in Tubac. His Thirty-year passion for expression shows itself in the unselfconscious sweep of his art.
From his charcoals of Pamplona Spain, the street vendors of Paris, and the power of universal symbols of his representational pieces, his thematic interest has been ever expanding. His search for the perfect medium has centered on acrylics, mainly due to the non-toxicity of the materials, and the variety of available techniques.
Garrison’s work conveys the power and intensity of the world around us while Zen influences convey his respect for all living things and cultures. He strives, via paint, to expose the essence of the subject and his interpretation of it. His passion is to express and portray the reality/illusionary interplay of the human condition, with the goal being the conscious evolution of his work.
All his abstract work reflects an expressionist style with the focus being the creation of tension between order/chaos, conscious/subconscious, and the seen and the unseen. It resonates with our human effort to impose order on a world that resists our efforts while demonstrating that natural order does exist if we only will stand far enough away to observe it.
