Joanne Miller-Rafferty, Paintings
The journey of one color vibrating through another and the balancing of light as more and more collage pieces are incorporated into my work makes the concept of the landscape richer, sometimes more complicated, sometimes freer, producing a sense of motion and a place for contemplation. ~Joanne Miller-Rafferty
Joanne Miller Rafferty’s splashes of color and quick line convey not just a lively style and pure technique, but her intense joy in her art and deep appreciation for the abstractions found in the many forces of land, sky and sea. These paintings present abstracted forms refined into an ideal.
Building from horizontal schemes, Joanne creates visual islands engulfed in color, handmade paper and golden string. “You never know what will wash ashore,” the artist says. “My landscapes challenge traditional boundaries–the uncertainty is the adventure.”
Joanne’s work is featured in over 1000 public and private collections including the Exxon Corporation, IBM, Marriott Hotels, UBS, Compuserve, PSEG, Master Card International, and American Express.
She is also listed in Who’s Who in American Art, 2000 Outstanding Artists and Designers of the 20th Century, Strathmore Who’s Who, and Mantle Fielding’s Dictionary of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers and is a member of the National Association of Women Artists.
Joanne holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Daemen College and graduate studies for permanent certification in Art Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
