Fred Wackerle, Paintings
”My paintings are more abstract than representational: motivated by light, shape, and shadow.” ~Fred Wackerle
I enjoy both plein air and studio painting. My outdoor painting process consists of scouting out a good location, at times hiking at great length, selecting dramatic light conditions, editing the subject matter for composition, and selecting a color palette that achieves a striking impression. In addition, I like the challenge of painting ala prima…fast. I sometimes take my small plein air paintings into my studio for glazing to bring up the values or correct for light and shadow.
My larger works, especially cloud abstracts and sunsets, are done in my studio either directly from life observation, or memory. I love to paint in oils.
After a 40-year career as an executive search consultant specializing in CEO succession, I retired and have spent the last several years dividing my time between Chicago and Tucson.
